About Badyn


Badyn Woodford, a native of St. Clairsville, OH, is a pianist, organist, trombonist, creative artist, composer, and conductor. He’s studied piano under the tutelage of Ms. Linda Steffl, Dr. Gerald Lee, Dr. Millard Neal, and Grammy-nominated pianist Dr. Lucy Mauro. Badyn has also studied organ with Dr. Millard Neal, trombone with Mr. Hakeem A. Bilal and Dr. Keith Jackson, jazz improvisation with Dr. Robert Sears, wind band conducting with Dr. Scott Tobias, and choral conducting with Dr. Kym Scott.

His consistent dedication to his craft has led to a number of opportunities to perform across the country and abroad, including three appearances in The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York, NY (2021, ’24, ’26), as well as various churches in Ohio, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Utah and Italy. These church performances include organ recitals, worship services, charity events, and public exhibitions held at venues such as First Presbyterian Church (Wheeling, WV), Trinity Lutheran Church (Bridgeport, OH), Third Presbyterian Church (Pittsburgh, PA), The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Conference Center (Salt Lake City, UT), and The Basilica of Santa Croce (Firenze, Italia). Woodford is also one of the 2022 recipients of the Leonard Bernstein Award for Musicianship, which seeks to “honor students whose musical contributions, dedication, and creativity set them apart as deserving of the highest recognition for their achievements.”

Badyn is currently a sophomore at West Virginia University, pursuing the Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education. Within the School of Music, he is a part of many ensembles, including but not limited to, The Pride of West Virginia, Symphonic Band, Film Score Ensemble, and Jazz Ensemble II. Most recently, Badyn was appointed to the WVU Wind Symphony, the University’s top wind ensemble. Away from the University setting, Woodford is half of the Lampert & Woodford and Morris & Woodford Duos, and is on the instructional staff of the Harrison Central High School Music Department. He’s involved in a variety of professional organizations, including being a member of The National Association for Music Education, The American Musicology Society, The West Virginia University School of Music Advisory Board, The American Guild of Organists, The West Virginia Music Educators Association, and the International Trombone Association. Additionally, he is the co-chair of The West Virginia University Student Government Association’s Academic Advisory Board. Following his undergraduate work, Badyn aspires to continue his education with graduate degrees in the fields of Musicology, Music Performance, and Conducting.
